LDRS 1016: Exploring Citizen Leadership
Course Description: This course introduces leadership praxis (action and reflection) as a method of research and service designed to continually refine leadership theory, competencies, and values.
Experience: This course consisted of the analysis of citizen leadership through examples from Hollywood. Leadership in Hollywood was a great course which introduced me to movie productions that highlight a variety of social complexities. During this class, I watched movies and engaged in discussions with my peers which were followed by the production of reflection papers throughout the semester.
Among the movie we watched were "V for Vendetta", "When the Levees Broke" by director Spike Lee, Dr. Seuss' The Lorax, and many more. I also had the opportunity of writing blog posts as a result of this class.
This course allowed me to further develop my leadership philosophy, traits, and skills as well as it allowed me to better express my values, beliefs, and cultural identity (self-awareness). This class also introduced me to the perspective of multi-cultural influences in leadership all of which contributed to sharpening my skills and making me the leader I am today.
