LDRS 3304: Elements of Team Leadership

Course Description: The focus of this course is to enable students to develop effectiveness in leading, delegating, and communicating within a team environment. An emphasis will be placed on emotional intelligence in teams, team management, and effective team processes.

Experience: This course introduced me to the differences between teams and groups (and I wrote a blog post on this topic) and it explored the processes to which teams and groups are exposed. As part of this class, readiness assurance tests were administered to ensure individual understanding of weekly readings and those were followed by team readiness assurance tests which were completed in teams through means of a consensus.

This course included the completion of a service learning project, as part of which my team and I worked with College Mentors for Kids at Virginia Tech. We conducted a workshop with elementary school children which was meant to build team leadership. A report and an in class presentation were produced as a result of this experience.

As part of this course, the class watched the movie Oceans Eleven and a reel leadership paper was produced. This paper focused on the identification and discussion of elements of team leadership present in the movie.
